Review

The 2011 Sustainable Development Report for Petra Diamonds ("Petra", or "the Company") covers the Company's economic, social and environmental performance during the financial year under review, from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011, referred to as "FY 2011".

The Company has taken significant steps during the year to comply with the requirements of the International Integrated Reporting Committee Framework as far as possible, believing as it does, that the future of reporting is dictated by an integrated approach.

This web-based report covers the operations managed by the Company in FY 2011 in the following areas: Cullinan, Koffiefontein, Kimberley Underground, Helam, Sedibeng and Star mines in South Africa, the Williamson mine in Tanzania, and the Kalahari exploration programme in Botswana. The issues that are deemed to be most material to the Group are discussed, and where applicable, illustrative case studies are provided. Petra's Sustainable Development Report should be read in conjunction with the Company's 2011 Annual Report, which was produced for the same reporting period.

Petra has adopted the Global Reporting Initiative ("GRI") G3 guidelines as the basis for its sustainable development reporting and, has in this report, self-declared a C level of reporting - see the GRI reporting index. In addition, Petra has reported on its compliance with the Mining Charter, as prescribed by the South African Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act ("MPRDA"), No 28 of 2002.
